Mormon Missionaries

Many churches believe in the power of missionary work. Many religions feel that they have truth to offer to the entire world. The Mormon religion is not an exception. They have a very focus, very enthusiastic mission program, peopled by enthusiastic missionaries.

Mormons believe that the truth they offer is the complete truth, which is why they preach to those of all faiths, even mainstream Christians. While they believe that most belief systems have some truth to them, they want to share what truths are unique to the Mormon faith with everyone. It is a labor of both devotion and joy.

Missionaries are always encouraged to share, however, not to argue or "bash." Their purpose is not to bulldoze their way into other people’s beliefs, but to invite consideration.

Who are Mormon missionaries? The stereotypical Mormon missionary is a young man in a suit, often riding a bicycle, and always accompanied by another missionary. But Mormon missionaries can be women, or elderly couples seeking to spread the faith or do service for others.

What do Mormon missionaries teach? They teach the Mormon basic beliefs and answer questions or concerns that people interested in the Church might have. They often leave a Book of Mormon, which is an important book of scripture in their faith, with investigators.

What are "member missionaries?" Although the Church has specifically called missionaries, everyone in the Church is encouraged to be concerned with missionary work. Mormons are supposed to teach by both word and deed, and to help new members of the Church feel welcome and cared for.
